Biosciences and Landscape Architecture
The faculty boasts a number of renowned research units that have been active in the field of applied research for many years. For instance, the Food and Agricultural Biotechnology research unit, which currently focuses on the application of different DNA fingerprinting technologies to biological materials and derived products. The Plant Breeding research unit is known all over the world for its pioneering triticale research. The Plant Tissue unit has two major research focuses: in vitro breeding and the genetic transformation of ornamental plants. These are only a few examples of the wide range of research areas and teams in the faculty.
Music, Drama and Fine Arts
Research at the faculty of Music is coordinated by a group of lecturers possessing a strong affinity with research in the fields of music. Many of these have a scientific background while others are, in their capacity of musicians, directly involved in the development of the arts.
Social Work, Welfare Studies, Health Care and Teacher Training

Technology and Applied Engineering Sciences
University College Ghent has a long-established research tradition in these fields. A few examples: the Textile unit actively participates in the development of new textile technologies and environmental technology (e.g. waste water management and treatment). The Chemistry and Biochemistry unit has specific expertise in heavy metals extraction and brewery techniques and the Mechanics unit has a long list of publications in the field of rapid prototyping and manufacturing.
Translation Studies
The faculty has a number of language-specific research teams (French, Spanish, Dutch, English, German, and Czech/Russian/Hungarian) whose members also cooperate inter-linguistically on a regular basis. In addition, there are two specialized research units for interpretation and language technology.
